N.Y. brownfield grants sought for GM cleanup By BRIAN HAYDEN JOHNSON NEWSPAPERS/Watertown Daily Times (NY) January 30, 2011MASSENA - Those involved in redeveloping the General Motors Powertrain plant are looking to secure hundreds of thousands of dollars in state funds to help move the process forward. Members of the North Country Redevelopment Task Force are trying to land a Brownfield Opportunity Area grant through the state Department of State. The task force discussed the brownfield program at a meeting Thursday in Town Hall. J. Patrick Turbett, task force chairman, said the money will go a long way toward marketing the site for businesses or reuses. The brownfield grants typically range from $200,000 to $500,000. Funds would be used to hire an entity, such as a consulting firm, that could determine the best ways the site could be used and marketed, Mr. Turbett said. ...
