County asks $400,000 grant for GM siteBROWNFIELD OPPORTUNITY: Massena, Mohawk tribe to be 'partners' in redeveloping property By BRIAN HAYDEN Watertown Daily Times (NY) April 29, 2011MASSENA - St. Lawrence County officials have applied for a $400,000 state redevelopment grant for the General Motors Powertrain site. The Brownfield Opportunity Areas grant, provided by the Department of State, would be used to complete marketing studies and a definitive plan for redeveloping the GM site. That plan will put the "meat on the bone" to identify and market its best possible use, County Administrator Karen M. St. Hilaire said. She said she expects the county to receive news on the award within the next couple of months. The St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators and the Massena Town Council had passed resolutions last winter to apply for the grant. The county is the lead applicant for the grant, and Massena is a co- applicant. ...
