Alexandria negotiating to get title to reclaimed foundry site Bret H. McCormick Alexandria Town Talk (LA) February 14, 2011The city of Alexandria continues to seek ownership rights to the former Ruston Foundry site and surrounding property in South Alexandria, an area the city has targeted for redevelopment. City officials and residents who live near the site in the Lower Third Street area have been working for years to clean up and rehabilitate the site, which had been classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a toxic Superfund site. The EPA's record of decision of Nov. 9, 2009, that the 6.6-acre tract of land has been remediated to the point that it qualifies for redevelopment has allowed the city to move forward with plans to acquire the property and nearly 30 adjacent acres from Kansas City Southern Railroad. ...
