Remington Rand site plan on deck By Jason Siedzik Middletown Press (CT) February 15, 2011MIDDLETOWN - Having already concocted a plan for the former Remington Rand site, the city of Middletown has secured grants to perform some of the necessary remediation. ...The plan to remediate the complex, available on the department's site, calls for a series of steps, including removing storage tanks, contaminated soil and asbestos. The project will begin May 15 and is scheduled to conclude precisely six months later. The former Remington Rand complex - the company had made typewriters and computers, but the factory was closed in the 1970's - is part of an ongoing turnaround. City-owned since 1999, Middletown had nearly sold the complex, composed of three buildings spread over just under 10.5 acres and totaling 188,950 square feet of space, to Wallingford-based TWB Properties. The deal fell apart due to contamination at the site, though. In that time, the town has rented out the space, recently striking an agreement with API Construction, one of the contractors working on the Kleen Energy plant, in December 2009. ...
