Covington cleaning up brownfield site for development Scott Wartman Zanesville Times Recorder April 6, 2011COVINGTON - A federal grant will fund the cleanup this summer of a former industrial site in the Wallace Woods neighborhood of Covington and will pave the way for a company to move onto the site. Since it was a carnival ground in 1884, the vacant property in the 2100-block of Donaldson Avenue has housed a soap factory, multiple oil companies and, most recently, the Donaldson Art Sign company. This history has left arsenic, lead, and chemicals related to petroleum, paints and solvents in the ground and led to its designation as a brownfield site and the city receiving $111,066 from the Environmental Protection Agency to clean it up. The city acquired the site in 2008. ...
