June Key Delta Community Center marks grand opening with festivities

After two years of construction, the June Key Delta Community Center  
will celebrate its grand opening with an open house Aug. 10.

The center is on the site of a former gas station, which was  
purchased by the black sorority organization in 1992. Group members  
each donated $100 to start the fund and June Key, who worked for  
Portland Public Schools, bought the property with the understanding  
the sorority would pay her back.

Since construction began, much has been done to improve the grounds,  
including planting a community garden.
