Low turnout for meeting about creosote pollution By PRISCILLA LOEBENBERG Sun-Herald (MS) March 27, 2012GULFPORT -- The Department of Marine Resources’ public meeting at the Good Deeds Community Center on Tuesday had a handful of attendees and only one commenter. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the public about Cavenham Forest Industries’ plans to further contain contamination at its Creosote Road site and how those plans would affect wetlands. Richard Marsh of the Gulfport Concerned Citizens Coalition did not speak for or against the project, but said he was concerned no public officials were present to represent the community. Clyde Woodward, a consultant for CFI, said the project has been in the works for three years and multiple informational meetings have already been held. He said that is probably the reason attendance was low at the meeting. ...
