DEP plans April meeting on contaminated New Hanover wells By Evan Brandt Pottstown Mercury (PA) March 28,2012NEW HANOVER - As many as five private wells have been contaminated with dangerous chemicals as the result of underground leaks from the former Good Oil site near Layfield and Hoffmansville roads, according to state officials. ...Lynda Rebarchak, a spokeswoman for the DEP, said the wells have been found to be contaminated primarily with three chemicals that belong to a company of pollutants called volatile organic compounds. "The contaminants include volatile organic compounds (VOCs) - TCE and its breakdown products (DCE and vinyl chloride) - as well as fuel- related compounds (including Benzene and MTBE)," she wrote in a March 26 email to The Mercury. ...
