12 potentially contaminated sites targeted in Union Street area Bethany Bruner Newark Advocate (OH) September 7, 2012NEWARK -- Concerned residents and community leaders met Thursday night to discuss ways to revitalize the Union Street corridor. The meeting, hosted by the Newark and Ohio Departments of Development, sought input on plans to spruce up the area bordered by Union and Main streets, Grant Street and Raccoon Drive. About 15 people attended the meeting, many of them residents in the area. Newark Economic Development Coordinator Stuart Moynihan said the city has targeted 12 potential "brownfield" sites in the area, with a specific focus on two larger properties. Money from a state grant awarded late last year will help defray the cost of cleaning up the sites. ...
