City officials start to tackle hundreds of contaminated properties in need of a clean-up Ann Keil Fox 59 TV News September 4, 2012 Indianapolis city officials say there are hundreds of sites across the city that have been contaminated and require a cleanup. They are called brownfields, and in some cases, they may or will pose a threat to the environment and or human health. One of those sites is the former Central State Hospital that includes nearly two dozen buildings on a large piece of property. "It can be dangerous, especially late in the evening," said Crystal Hill, who is involved in a kids football league that practices on that property. Hill said the city has allowed them to use the land while demolition and redevelopment occurs. ...
