PSE&G's $446M solar energy investment would utilize landfills, brownfields By Alexi Friedman Newark Star-Ledger (NJ) April 30, 2013 To solar energy developers, New Jersey’s thousands of acres of brownfields and hundreds of landfills represent a vast untapped resource in a state starving for open space. But because of economic, environmental and logistical hurdles, landfills and brownfields account for just a tiny fraction of the more than 20,000 solar projects installed in New Jersey with the help of subsidy credits. On Tuesday, Public Service Electric & Gas said it had reached a preliminary agreement with state regulators to invest up to $446 million to build solar-power projects in the Garden State, marking a significant expansion of the utility’s existing solar panel and loan programs. The settlement with the staff of the Board of Public Utilities still requires full board approval; a decision is expected by May 31.
