Incentives eyed for plant cleanup Leesburg Daily Commercial (FL) December 27, 2013Land behind Palm Plaza on U.S. 27 could be more easily developed with financial incentives for the landowner that the city of Leesburg is asking the state to support. The city wants the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to designate the Walling Crate Company behind the plaza as a Brownfield Area "for the purposes of economic development, environmental remediation and rehabilitation." If given that status, the owner of the four-acre tract - which has buildings dating back to 1922 - would be eligible for clean-up tax credits, sales tax credits on building materials, a loan guarantee program and clean-up liability protection from the state. The owner, Walling Crate Company Inc. and Walling Enterprises Inc., would additionally be eligible to receive fully deductible past and future clean-up costs from the federal government. ...
