Subject: [CPEO-BIF] Former manufactured gas plant, Red Bluff, California
Cleanup input sought for 600 Rio St.

Red Bluff Daily News (CA)
February 14, 2014

The public is being invited to review and comment on a proposed cleanup plan for 600 Rio St., which was once the site of a manufactured gas plant.

None of the chemicals found in the groundwater, which occurs at a depth of about 10-38 feet below the surface, have flowed into Red Bluff's municipal wells.

While siteworkers, the surrounding population and the environment are not at risk, a long-term cleanup would allow for the future reuse of the site.

The Department of Toxic Substances Control is asking the public to review a plan proposed by PG&E, a former and current owner, to clean up the site.

The plan proposes excavation and off-site disposal of around 18,500 cubic yards of contaminated shallow soils and the treating of 9,000 cubic yards of deeper soils by mixing with cement to stabilize the residual contamination in place.
