New cold storage facility to be built at Port of Long Beach By Andrew Edwards Long Beach Press-Telegram (CA) March 19, 2104LONG BEACH - Baker Cold Storage and Lineage Logistics broke ground Wednesday on an expansive cold storage building that company executives said will be the largest of its kind near a Southern California port. When completed, the nearly 250,000-square-foot building will enable its operators to import fruits and vegetables from such places as Peru and Chile while also employing “blast freezing” technology to prepare beef, pork and chicken products for export to Asian ports, said Mitch Ebright, vice president of Baker Cold Storage, and Bill Hendrickson, CEO of Lineage Logistics. ...The land, however, was contaminated. It was the site of a J. H. Baxter & Co. wood treatment plant from 1925 to 2001 where creosote and other chemicals were detected in soil or groundwater.
