Valentine Distilling to utilize brownfield site for manufacturing  
expansion

FERNDALE - Roughly six months after announcing his plans to open a  
bigger manufacturing center in Ferndale, Rifino Valentine got the  
personal property tax exemption he was seeking during the Sept. 8  
City Council meeting.

He now looks to open the new center by the end of the year.

Valentine owns and operates Valentine Distilling Co., a business he  
opened a few years ago at 161 Vester Ave. in Ferndale. Originally,  
Valentine crafted Valentine Vodka, but as his product’s popularity  
took off, Valentine introduced Liberator Gin and Woodward Ltd. Whiskey.

"Council worked with the owners of the Wanda property to approve a  
brownfield incentive that allowed the adapted reuse and redevelopment  
of a functionally obsolete and pretty significantly contaminated  
piece of property," Delacourt said. "Since that time, the land has  
been useable and the interior rebuild continues to be a success.  
Brass Aluminum has expanded, and it allows other companies to  
continue to refurbish there, and now it allows the opportunity for  
Valentine to expand their operations."
