Reborn Eau Claire park impresses Sturgeon Bay visitors Monica Sawyn, Special to the Advocate Green Bay Press Gazette (WI) April 28, 2015 The city of Eau Claire pulled out all the stops Friday when it hosted a group of Sturgeon Bay citizens who came to learn how an award-winning park and surrounding development was done so successfully. The delegation on the April 24 trip, sponsored by Center Line Community Forum, toured Phoenix Park, a $4 million public park on the riverfront. It is part of an area that had been abandoned in 1971, leaving contamination from nearly 100 years of heavy industrial use. They also heard presentations from city officials, and from developers of nearby property that was part of the downtown revitalization project. Center Line member Laurel Hauser said it was hoped that the trip would allow them to learn how another community handled development and the processes surrounding it. Key to the project, according to Eau Claire City Council President Kerry Kincaid, was the decision of Royal Credit Union to build its 100,000-square-foot, four-story corporate headquarters at the site, anchoring other developments that followed, both business and residential, and generating money through tax increment financing to fund the park. … For the entire article, see http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/local/door-co/news/2015/04/28/reborn-eau-claire-park-impresses-sturgeon-bay-visitors/26536747/ -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center 278-A Hope Street Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650-961-8918 or 650-969-1545 Fax: 650-961-8918 LSiegel@cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Brownfields mailing list Brownfields@lists.cpeo.org http://lists.cpeo.org/listinfo.cgi/brownfields-cpeo.org | |
