Reuse of Anchor Hocking site still a priority

CLARKSBURG — Clarksburg officials remain interested in seeing the old Anchor Hocking property redeveloped for commercial use, but how to make that happen is itself in the developmental stage.

Assistant City Manager Anthony Bellotte met at the former glass plant site this week with representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, state Department of Environmental Protection and Northern West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center.

“We asked them, if we ever have a potential new developer, would they be willing to assist us with any type of environmental issues, and their answer was yes,” Bellotte said.

“Without any specifics being discussed, that’s about as far as we went,” Bellotte added. “It was a positive conversation.”

What form of assistance the EPA and DEP would provide is uncertain.

For instance, the property is privately owned and would not be eligible for grants, EPA and DEP officials said.
