Opponents: Toxic pollution will put homeless campers at risk By Mark Miller KOMO News (Seattle, WA) August 18, 2015 SEATTLE -- Opponents of Seattle's plan to build a homeless camp in the city's Interbay neighborhood hope they have new ammo for their battle. A businessman who owns land adjacent to the proposed site says the soil there is contaminated with a hazardous chemical that would pose a serious health threat to campers. "These people are going to be camping on a hot site. This is the wrong site for it," said Brook Barnes. Barnes says the chemical is TCE, an industrial solvent used to clean grease from equipment and listed by the EPA as a known carcinogen.
