Brownfield funds help SJ Twp. company with $6M expansion

ST. JOSEPH - The Berrien County Board of Commissioners on Thursday approved brownfield funding that will assist a St. Joseph Township company to expand and add jobs.

During a public hearing, Community Development Director Dan Fette presented the plan to provide $222,195 in brownfield funding to Hanson Systems, which will allow for the expansion of its subsidiary, Eagle Technologies, at a 19-acre site at Lakeshore Drive and Maiden Lane.

Brownfield funds are reimbursed through additional taxes generated by the development.

Hanson Systems, which makes automated material handling systems, plans to invest $6 million in the plant and add up to 100 jobs paying between $20 and $25 an hour, Fette said. The project is slated to be completed within a year.
