Support Brownfields grant application Foster's Daily Democrat December 15, 2016 A public hearing will be held tonight to discuss the proposal to apply for federal grants to clean up the former Advanced Recycling site on Wallace Street in Rochester. We encourage anyone interested in the project to attend the meeting, hear about the proposal and support it. The city is considering using U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Brownfields Program to clean up the site, which has been deemed contaminated. It is located at 10-16 Wallace St. According to Rochester city documents, the site formerly housed several industrial and commercial tenants over the past century. Rochester Foundry and Machine Works occupied the site in 1908. Since then, Johnson Foundry, Twin State Gas and Electric Company, Diamond Match Company, the scrap metal company L. Weinstein & Sons and Public Service of New Hampshire have used the space. In 1989, the site was purchased by Advanced Recycling. In December 1996, a complaint was filed with N.H. Department of Environmental Services about an apparent oil spill there. Officials removed about 2 tons of soil that had been affected by cutting oils. ...
