Small-scale manufacturing is beginning to flourish in communities across the country, but there are many challenges to ensuring that emerging entrepreneurs of color or from immigrant communities can equitably participate in this manufacturing resurgence.

How do you kick start small-scale manufacturing efforts in your city? How can municipalities support a diverse and inclusive group of business owners in creating local jobs and recruiting workers from marginalized communities? In Part 1 of a two-part webinar series for municipal leaders and community and economic development practitioners, Ilana Preuss of Recast City will share insights from her work to advance small-scale manufacturing in former industrial and brownfield-affected communities across the US.

This webinar is for:
  • Community and economic development practitioners (municipal and nonprofit)
  • Municipal leaders (elected and appointed officials; departmental heads)
  • Urban and neighborhood planners
  • Workforce development specialists
  • Chambers of Commerce leaders

About the Presenter:
Recast City’s founder, Ilana Preuss, is passionate about making great places and believes that small-scale manufacturers are a missing piece to creating long-lasting, vibrant local economies and great places to live and work for everyone.
With nearly 20 years of experience in city development, Preuss works with local leaders to go from idea to plan to action to build great places. Preuss brings a wealth of experience with federal, state, and local real estate policy, creating national networks and engaging local elected, business, and other community leaders to bring projects to life.

Preuss is an experienced speaker; see her TEDx presentation, “The Economic Power of Great Places,” and her presentation “The Coming Revolution: Small-Scale Urban Industrial Development” at Meeting of the Minds. She is a regular press spokesperson featured in the New York Times and USA Today.
