Public to hear about dangers of Bishop Tube development Chester County Daily Local News (PA) September 30, 2017 East Whiteland - The Delaware Riverkeeper Network and East Whiteland Township community will host an open public presentation next week detailing the health, property, and environmental dangers associated with the Bishop Tube site located in East Whiteland Township. The forum on Oct. 4 will include discussion of a new proposal to partially remediate the site in order to support its development with the full extent of remediation unknown and undetermined. The Bishop Tube Site is a former metals processing plant located in East Whiteland Township. The site is bordered by Little Valley Creek, a tributary to exceptional value Valley Creek. As a result of the historic uses at the site, it has been designated as a Brownfields site. The site is contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE), which is classified as a probable human carcinogen by the EPA. There is significant contamination in groundwater and ongoing contamination to Little Valley Creek, an exceptional value stream. The extent of the contamination plume emanating from the site is significant, with data showing contamination on the order of a mile away from Bishop Tube. A developer has proposed a plan to partially remediate the site followed by the development of more than 200 townhomes. Community members are opposed to this plan. Instead the Delaware Riverkeeper Network and Bishop Tube Clean & Green community group is advocating for full remediation, at the expense of responsible parties, with the site preserved as natural open space for the benefit of the community. … For the entire article, see http://www.dailylocal.com/article/DL/20170930/NEWS/170939992 -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight a project of the Pacific Studies Center P.O.
