22-year long remedial investigation at brownfield site almost complete as port plans to move on to feasibility study

A brownfield site in St. Helens, which has been undergoing a remedial investigation for more than two decades, will soon move on to a feasibility study.

Port commissioners approved a resolution on Wednesday, March 20 to enter into a contract with Cascadia Associates, LLC to prepare the scope and estimated costs for preparing a feasibility study work plan.

Deputy Executive Director for the port, Paula Miranda said by phone interview on Friday that this contract aims to provide part of the Request for Proposals that the port will release for an environmental group to complete the feasibility study. According to Miranda, DEQ (Department for Environmental Quality) has approved the port to finalize its remedial investigation, and they also want the port to supply a schedule for the feasibility study, showing that they are capable of finishing the study by the end of the year.
