UConn report on InterRoyal site gives Plainfield leaders direction

PLAINFIELD - Plainfield officials are hoping a new report updating environmental conditions at a long-abandoned mill property will enable the town to attract both clean-up money and developers to the burned-out site.

The town last month received a “Summary of Existing Environmental Conditions and Remedial Suggestions” document compiled by students and staff from UConn’s geo-environmental engineering course as part of a brownfield assessment initiative focused on the former InterRoyal Mill property behind town hall.

The UConn assessment was based on information gleaned from new examinations of the property along with data previously reported in a separate 2016 assessment conducted by BL Companies.

First Selectwoman Cathy Tendrich said the new report summarizes conditions at the 16-acre property and offers suggestions on remediation work – crucial information for potential private developers or a planned new land bank.
