Howell toxic air threat eased by plating equipment shutdown By Garret Ellison MLive (MI) November 22, 2019 HOWELL, MI - Regulators say the immediate danger from toxic air in Livingston County has passed after a plating company in Howell shut down emissions from equipment that was pushing high levels of a cancer-causing chemical out of rooftop vents. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) says ambient air tests around the city of Howell show significantly reduced levels of trichloroethylene (TCE), which had been traced to the Diamond Chrome Plating company at 604 S. Michigan Ave. … The plating facility is surrounded by a residential area. Ambient TCE was being detected inside Howell homes and air purifying units were installed at three of them earlier this year. … For the entire article, see https://www.mlive.com/news/2019/11/howell-toxic-air-threat-eased-by-plating-equipment-shutdown.html -- Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
