Demolition in full swing at former Rome Cable site By Jolene Cleaver Rome Sentinel (NY) January 10, 2020 4:00 pm This week, demolition and remediation efforts continued at the former Rome Cable site off of Erie Boulevard to make way for improvement and business development at the long-vacant site. Workers estimate all of the structures and rubbish to be knocked down, remediated and removed from the site by June or July. All the metal extracted from the tear-down is being recycled and anything not recyclable is being taken to the landfill in Ava, workers there said. At an early December Erie Boulevard Brownfield Opportunity Area project meeting, Matthew Andrews, the city’s community and economic development deputy director confirmed that work on the brownfield remediation was underway using a $1 million Superfund grant previously secured.
