City of Wooster moves to clean up contaminated Tire Centers property downtown

WOOSTER − Sitting empty at 517 E. Liberty St., the former Tire Centers Inc. auto repair garage is boarded up, with "keep out" signs posted.

While the gray, vacant property is harmless on the surface, underneath the building is a hazard — soil polluted by gasoline that seeped into the ground during its 15-year abandonment and prior tenure in operation, said Jonathan Millea, the city's development coordinator.
