BRAC: Planning for the future GF city, county meets with Pentagon economic experts By Tu-Uyen Tran Grand Forks Herald (ND) July 22, 2005 Grand Forks Air Force Base might be off the closure list, but that didn't stop city and county officials from meeting Thursday with officials from a Pentagon agency that helps communities deal with the impact of military bases. "Why do anything else?" city administrative coordinator Rick Duquette asked by way of introduction. "We've got great news. But there is a need for planning even if the base gets bigger." Dave MacKinnon, associate director of the Office of Economic Adjustment, clarified. With the base responsible for 7.4 percent of the workforce, he said, the Grand Forks area is overly dependent on military spending.
