BRUNSWICK - Like neighboring titans, Brunswick Naval Air Station and Bowdoin College loom above Bath Road and its environs.

Each is a dominant presence in the Mid-coast region, drawing young people to Brunswick and fueling the local economy as two of the largest employers in town.

The influence of both institutions imprints the town's heritage and culture, evidenced most vividly in the school system. Children of Bowdoin College professors study side by side with the children of Navy fliers. Spouses of P-3 Orion aircraft mechanics teach across the hall from Bowdoin graduates.
