City councilman trying to slow Cecil dealsby Tony Quesada The Business Journal of Jacksonville (FL) Augustg 4, 2006 Jacksonville City Councilman Art Graham is urging the city to hold off on making deals to bring companies to Cecil Commerce Center until after voters decide whether the city should give Cecil to the Navy for a master jet base. Graham specifically questioned the wisdom of selling 63 acres at Cecil to Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC for a distribution center, according to a news release from VoteJacksonville.com. VoteJacksonville.com is the group that collected enough signatures on a petition to place a question on the Nov. 7 ballot asking whether the city charter should be amended to make Cecil a master jet base. If approved, the charter amendment would require city officials to meet the conditions set by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission for moving the jets at Naval Air Station Oceana, Va., to Cecil. ...
