Tri-Town ready for more land: Makes offer to Navy for remaining 835
acres at South Weymouth’s former air baseBy JACK ENCARNACAO Quincy Patriot Ledger August 30, 2006 WEYMOUTH - The overseers of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station have offered to buy the remaining Navy-owned land on the site, a critical step in its redevelopment. South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp. made the offer for the 835 acres after a year of appraisals and negotiations. Officials would not disclose the sum offered to the Navy. The Navy and Tri-Town have both appraised the base land, and both are keeping their appraised values secret. ... There are at least five sites on the base where there is known, major contamination. The Navy still controls this land, which includes hangars and a landfill.
