Hutchison praises port planning body

Senator visits to sponsor USS San Antonio

INGLESIDE - U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, on Friday commended 
the Port of Corpus Christi's establishment of a redevelopment planning 
committee for Naval Station Ingleside and expects to see an explosion of 
activity stemming from the committee's future work.

"This planning commission is representative of all the communities and 
is a testament to the efforts of those communities," said Hutchison 
during a press conference at the base. "(The communities) don't want 
their senator telling them what to do. My mission was to get the land at 
little to no cost. Mission accomplished."

The port commission approved the establishment of the Coastal Bend 
Redevelopment Planning Committee and picked its 11-member panel Tuesday. 
The committee will direct the planning phase of the port's effort to 
redevelop most of the property at the base once the Navy leaves Ingleside.
