School crunch from Fort Lee? Neighbors seek more funds to cope with realignment's influx BY ANDREW PRICE RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH January 15, 2006 Dinwiddie County is lobbying the Defense Department and other federal agencies to pay for new schools to accommodate an anticipated increase of 7,300 personnel at Fort Lee. Dinwiddie officials are leading the charge in the Tri-Cities area for the new schools to offset Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations that would nearly double Fort Lee's population. Dinwiddie has joined with jurisdictions surrounding six other military bases in the Southeast and Midwest to form the Seven Rivers Military Coalition, which is seeking an estimated $2 billion to build the schools. Dinwiddie officials still aren't certain how much they would require. ...
