Bear Creek school eyes Reserves site The Route 115 facility, when vacant, would be used for middle school students. By BONNIE ADAMS Wilkes Barre Times-Leader (PA) May 31, 2006 PLAINS TWP. - The Bear Creek Community Charter School wants to open a second campus for middle school students in a military facility the U.S. Army Reserve plans to vacate. In a letter to military officials, the school's board of trustees said the student population has topped 300 and the school is investigating adding to the Bear Creek school on state Route 115 or expanding to a "split campus" for the upper grades. Lt. Col. Paul Burnham said Tuesday that the property has generated significant interest in comparison with 17 other military properties available in three states. The Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission recommended the local center be closed as the Army Reserve looks to consolidate its Wilkes-Barre and Scranton reserve centers into one. ...
