Kaine eyes more people for Fort Monroe boardIf Gov. Timothy Kaine gets his way, a development authority dealing with Fort Monroe would double in size. BY JIM HODGES Newport News Daily Press (VA) January 9 2007HAMPTON -- State officials told the Federal Area Development Authority on Monday that its number should be doubled, from seven to 14, and that Gov. Timothy M. Kaine had just the plan to do it. If necessary legislation is passed in the General Assembly, Kaine would nominate five representatives, and both Del. Tom Gear, R-Hampton, and state Sen. Marty Williams, R-Newport News, would join the seven representatives from Hampton currently serving. The group would form what is already being called a "super-FADA."The authority, chartered by the General Assembly last year, was set up to deal with the future of Fort Monroe, which is set to close in 2011 as part of Base Realignment and Closure legislation. The post will revert to the commonwealth of Virginia, which has - so far - largely deferred to the city. ...
