Stratford still eyes Army plant site RICHARD WEIZEL Connecticut Post January 14 2007STRATFORD - Now that Uncle Sam has essentially told Stratford, "We don't want you!" the big question is, who does the Army want to develop the 79-acre former tank engine plant on Main Street. It's too early to predict the fallout six days after the U.S. Army notified Stratford officials it has stripped the town of its authority to decide which group will develop the sprawling manufacturing site that closed as a manufacturing facility in 1995. But both Team Stratford, the group chosen by the Town Council in 2000 as the preferred developer over then-Town Manager Mark Barnhart's advice, and numerous other developers will likely be lining up to submit new bids for the redevelopment job within weeks or months. First, despite the Army's notice to the Town Council last week that, after 11 years, it lost patience with Stratford and would re-bid the project, leaders of Team Stratford still hope that decision can be reversed. ...
