Parkinson tours KAAP By Jon Ruhlen Parsons Sun (KS) February 13, 2007Kansas Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson said although the closing of the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant brings uncertainty and change, citizens of Parsons have shown they can overcome adversity. "Seven years ago when the F-3 tornado came through Parsons and wrecked the downtown area, there sure were a lot of folks in desperation," Parkinson said. "But the community came together and worked with the state and federal government and made it a better place. We need to do the same thing with the ammo plant." Parkinson, who replaces John Moore - the lieutenant governor during Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' first term - and a staffer were in Parsons today to tour the plant and visit local officials about the transition of the facility from the Army to local control. ...
