Hundreds have base concerns By MELISSA BUSCH The Intelligencer (PA) April 25, 2007The more than 200 people who packed Horsham's community room Tuesday had plenty of questions about a state proposal to turn the Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base into a regional security hub, but the locals responsible for overseeing the base's redevelopment had few answers. Residents had a laundry list of concerns including the specifics of the plan, how it will affect the values of their homes and their quality of life, who pays the estimated $12 million annual bill to maintain the 8,000-foot runway, and will the airstrip have to be opened up to cargo aircraft including those used by FedEx and UPS to pay for it. "The last thing we want is commercial use of that airport," resident Michael Blasek said. "We did not move here to have 100 planes a day flying over our houses." ...
