Harrison Twp. board opposes commercial flights at Selfridge

HARRISON TOWNSHIP -- The Township Board of Trustees is opposing the idea 
of commercial flights at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, although no 
such formal proposal has been made.

The resolution comes as base officials begin a study for possible uses 
for some of the 500 acres of land on the base that was home to the U.S. 
Army Garrison. The garrison was closed in 2005 by the federal Base 
Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC).

Township trustees approved the resolution unanimously Friday night out 
of concern the military planned to explore the idea of joint 
military-commercial uses at Selfridge. Supervisor Anthony Forlini said 
he met with base officials Monday and was informed that there was no 
plan for leasing the property to commercial aircraft businesses.
