Plan approved for Gillem By Daniel Silliman Clayton News Daily (GA) June 1, 2007A plan for light-industrial use was unanimously approved for the future of Fort Gillem, Wednesday night, by the Forest Park Local Redevelopment Authority. The LRA chose from three plans, which had been started by subcommittees made up of stakeholders, then reworked by professional planners. The subcommittees initially produced three very different plans for the 1,200-acre property that will be available after the Army leaves the installation in September 2011. One called for mainly light-industrial development. A second favored mixed-use development designed around a central circle of greenspace. The third would use the space mostly for retail purposes, with a secondary development of housing. After the professionals revised the plans, accounting for economic and environmental limitations, all three focused on light-industrial use, with a smattering of housing, retail, greenspace and other uses. The LRA chose Alternative A, which had always been mainly dedicated to light-industrial use. ...
