Army seeking environmental review board for Gillem

Fort Gillem officials are looking to go public with the environmental 
evaluation and restoration of the 1,500-acre base, which is slated to be 
closed and turned over to local authorities.

The Base Realignment and Closure office will hold a meeting, later this 
month, to solicit participants in a Restoration Advisory Board.
"We are looking for anybody that is interested in participating in the 
process," said Victor Bonilla, environmental coordinator for the BRAC 
office. "They review the documents. They provide their comments. We sit 
down and work together... We follow their guidance and advice."

The board is designed to promote community involvement in the process of 
closing the base. The Army is required to involve the public and make 
the closure is "a very open process," Bonilla said.
