DEFENSE ESTABLISHES SHIP-SCRAPPING PANEL In the wake of the Baltimore Sun's expose of occupational and environmental hazards, in the U.S. and abroad, in the ship-scrapping industry, the Defense Department has established the high-level, short-term "Interagency Ship Scrapping Review Panel ." The charter and membership of the panel may be accessed most simply through EPA's web page: http://es.epa.gov/oeca . The Ship-Scrapping Panel is listed under "What's Hot." The panel is seeking both written and oral testimony from the public. I believe the public meeting will be held in DC March 5. I will post details when I receive them.
