SAN DIEGO -- A federal judge in Washington, D.C., issued a temporary order
yesterday preventing the Navy from transferring ownership of land at the
old Naval Training Center to the city of San Diego until a hearing is held
later this month.=20

The order was granted in connection with a lawsuit filed Dec. 17 by the
Campo Band of Mission Indians and the Kumeyaay Tribal Coalition. The
Indians contend that the 500-plus acres at the training center are part of
their ancestral homeland and that title should be transferred to them.
