BUREAU OF RECLAMATION SEEKS COMMENT ON DRAFT NEPA HANDBOOK
April 24, 2000

The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking comments on a draft handbook that was
developed to help the agency implement the National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA). Written comments on the handbook will be accepted for a 60-day
comment period ending on June 19, 2000.

Reclamation is required to comply with NEPA and various other
environmental laws. "The handbook will be used by Reclamation employees to
ensure that these all requirements under NEPA are met," stated Darrell
Cauley, Manager of the Environmental and Planning Coordination Office.
"There have been significant changes since the original NEPA handbook was
created in 1991, including a major reorganization and decentralization of
decision-making authority."

The entire document is available for review on the Internet at
www.usbr.gov/nepa. Copies of the NEPA Handbook can be requested from
Theresa Taylor - Environmental and Planning Coordination Office, Denver
Federal Center, PO Box 25007, Denver, CO 80225-0007, via the Internet at
nepa@do.usbr.gov, or by calling (303) 445-2826.

Copies of the NEPA Handbook will also be available for public inspection
and review at the following locations:=20
