It's official: Base land, groundwater protected By KEVIN DENNEHY STAFF WRITER CAMP EDWARDS - Years from now, Eric Turkington predicts, people will look at the map of Cape Cod with amazement. Sure, new streets and neighborhoods will continue to mushroom up and down the Cape, forever altering the face of the region. But two patches of green on either end of the map will tell the story of thousands of acres of land protected forever. Yesterday, one of those green spaces was guaranteed under a new state law, as 15,000 acres of Camp Edwards were permanently protected in order to ensure the quality of the precious groundwater flowing below.
