Copter scans Wellfleet beach for ordnance Military officials want to make sure the Cape Cod National Seashore strand is safe. By EMILY C. DOOLEY STAFF WRITER WELLFLEET - Forty years ago, practice bombs full of concrete rained down on the shoreline from Lecount Hollow Beach in Wellfleet to the town's border with Eastham. Today the area is a popular haven for beachcombers and sunbathers. But this week, sections of the Cape Cod National Seashore property, including Marconi Beach, have been closed to the public while military officials scan the beach and dunes for remnants of the Cold War era.
