Navy to test air in military homes

Reversing course, Navy says indoor tests necessary to determine health

By Justin Scheck

After almost a year of insisting that a controversial computer program
was sufficient to assure the safety of families living above toxins at
Moffett Field, the Navy did an about-face last week, saying it would
test the air inside homes to see if families are at risk.

Lawrence Lansdale, the Navy's cleanup coordinator for the Moffett Field
Superfund site, said last week that the air inside townhomes at Orion
Park - a military housing complex just outside the Moffett fence - would
be tested to determine whether toxic solvents in the groundwater are
vaporizing through soil and entering homes.
