Three U.S. Marines Injured in Kuwait Accident Oct. 10 ? By Ashraf Fouad KUWAIT (Reuters) - Three U.S. Marines were injured in a training accident on Thursday when ordnance left after the 1991 Gulf War exploded during a military exercise in Kuwait, U.S. sources said. A source told Reuters one Marine was in "very serious condition, the second is serious and the third is light injuries." U.S. sources said later that even the most seriously injured Marine was not in danger of dying. It was not immediately clear what had exploded, but land mines have been frequently touched off in Kuwait since the Gulf War, when a U.S.-led coalition drove out Iraqi forces who had occupied the oil-rich country seven months earlier. The Marines were training at a desert range just south of the border with Iraq. On Tuesday, one of the some 1,000 U.S. Marines currently training in Kuwait was killed in an attack by two Kuwaitis on Failaka Island. A second Marine was wounded in the arm in that attack and is recovering in a Kuwaiti military hospital.
