Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Fort Huachuca reduces water use, receives Army environmental honor |
Arizona SIERRA VISTA HERALD Fort Huachuca reduces water use, receives Army environmental honor By Bill Hess December 9, 2003 FORT HUACHUCA -- While the fort pumped less water last month, it has used more for the 11-month period of this year compared to 2002. The post's stewardship of water has led to it being recognized for a top Army environmental award. Last month the post pumped 102 acre-feet of water, which is 1 percent less than November 2002, said fort spokeswoman Joan Vasey. The drop in water use last month is due to the cessation of irrigation used to establish turf sod and switching from demolition to construction in the Pershing Plaza-West family housing area, said Mike Shaughnessey, real property manager for Fort Huachuca's directorate of insulation support. Vasey added that slightly more than 20 acre-feet of treated effluent were used last month, eliminating the need to pump from the groundwater aquifer.
