"The 60-year history of the laboratory has not seriously impacted the regional aquifer," said Charles Nylander, the program director. "But we have seen contamination in the aquifer at levels that are very low." The laboratory has been studying water quality since environmentalism became a national concern in the 1970s and 1980s, incrementally discovering new layers of complicated behavior in the regions hydrological system. The way water works carrying different chemical components through divergent layers of the Pajarito Plateau can't be explained on the back of a napkin. Acronyms and technical jargon make straightforward communications difficult. Understanding comes from combining geological features, canyon names, locations of water wells and test wells at varying depths, then visualizing the shape, direction and pace indicated by comparative test results in three dimensional space over time. ... for the entire story, see http://www.lamonitor.com/articles/2004/04/13/headline_news/news01.txt -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org =========================================================== $6.95 .com Domain Name Sale!
